Junior Geotechnical Engineer (Vancouver)

Edge GeoEngineering Ltd. (GeoEdge) is seeking a motivated Junior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team and assist in the execution of geotechnical projects. This role offers an excellent opportunity for career growth and development in the field of geotechnical engineering. As a Junior Geotechnical Engineer, you will support senior engineers in conducting field investigations, performing analyses, and preparing reports to ensure the successful completion of various construction and infrastructure projects.

This is a flexible, remote position, working in and around the Vancouver area.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Field Investigations:

    • Assist in conducting geotechnical field investigations, including soil and rock sampling, drilling supervision, and in-situ testing.

    • Compile and organize field data and observations for analysis by senior engineers.

  2. Data Analysis and Reporting:

    • Support senior engineers in analyzing geotechnical data to determine soil properties, stratigraphy, and groundwater conditions.

    • Assist in preparing clear and accurate geotechnical reports summarizing findings and recommendations.

  3. Geotechnical Analysis and Design Support:

    • Learn to perform basic geotechnical analyses such as slope stability, settlement analysis, and foundation design calculations.

    • Assist in the use of geotechnical software tools to model ground behavior and analyze construction scenarios.

  4. Project Coordination:

    • Collaborate with project teams to ensure geotechnical considerations are integrated into project designs and plans.

    • Support senior engineers in project management tasks, including scheduling and budget tracking.

  5. Compliance and Quality Assurance:

    • Ensure all work complies with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies.

    • Participate in quality assurance and quality control processes to maintain high standards of project delivery.

  6. Professional Development:

    • Actively participate in training programs and opportunities for continuing education to enhance technical knowledge and skills.

    • Seek mentorship from senior engineers to accelerate professional growth and development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.

  • Active EGBC registration as an engineer-in-training.

  • Knowledge of basic principles of geotechnical engineering and soil mechanics.

  • Experience in soil characterization and preparation of soil logs would be beneficial.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and independently when required.
