Intermediate Geotechnical engineer (Kelowna)

Edge GeoEngineering Ltd. (GeoEdge) is seeking a skilled Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our dynamic team. As an integral member of our geotechnical engineering department, you will contribute to the planning, design, and execution of various geotechnical projects. Your expertise will be pivotal in assessing subsurface conditions, analyzing data, and providing sound recommendations to ensure the stability and safety of construction projects.

This is a flexible, remote position, working in and around the Kelowna area.

Responsibilities:

  1. Site Investigation and Data Collection:

    • Conduct field investigations to assess soil, rock, and groundwater conditions using appropriate techniques such as drilling, sampling, and testing.

    • Compile and analyze geotechnical data obtained from site investigations to determine soil properties and stratigraphy.

  2. Geotechnical Analysis:

    • Perform geotechnical analyses and calculations, including slope stability, settlement analysis, bearing capacity, and earth pressure calculations.

    • Utilize geotechnical software and tools to model and simulate various ground conditions and construction scenarios.

  3. Report Preparation and Documentation:

    • Prepare clear, concise, and technically sound geotechnical reports summarizing findings, analyses, and recommendations.

    • Present findings and recommendations to project teams and clients in a professional manner.

  4. Design Support:

    • Collaborate with design engineers to integrate geotechnical considerations into project designs.

    • Provide recommendations for foundations, retaining structures, ground improvement techniques, and slope stabilization measures.

  5. Project Management and Compliance:

    • Assist in project management activities, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.

    • Ensure projects comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to geotechnical engineering.

  6. Continuous Learning and Development:

    • Stay updated with advancements in geotechnical engineering practices, techniques, and technologies.

    • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance technical knowledge and skills.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or working towards licensure.

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably in consulting or construction environments.

  • Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., GeoStudio, PLAXIS, Slope/W).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects effectively.
